Concordia Box ScoreSonoma State Box ScoreLAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team rallied for a 13-7 win over No. 19 Sonoma State Sunday (Feb. 7).
The Seawolves got out to an early 7-0 lead after scoring three runs in the first and four in the second.
The Mavericks put a pair of runs across the plate in the second thanks to a single by Alexandria Dulfour followed by doubles by
Makayla Kovac and
Brooke Hodgson.
Mesa followed up with a season-high seven runs in the fourth. The Mavs scored all seven of its runs in the inning with two outs.
Zoe Pakes capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run homerun, her first of the season.
The Mavs extended their lead to 13-7 after scoring four runs without a hit in the fifth. CMU's runs were generated thanks to two hit batters, one error, a fielder's choice and two stolen bases.
CMU received good offensive production from its two through four batters who accounted for eight of the team's nine hits and nine of 10 RBI's in the game.
Brooke Hodgson earned her first win of the season allowing seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits.
CMU opened the day with a 3-2 loss to Concordia (Ore.).
Concordia plated one run in the third and another in the fourth to lead 2-0.
McKenzie Surface led off the fifth with a double.
Baylee Boren, who pitch ran for Surface, came around to score thanks to single from
Courtney Robbins and a double by
Alexandria Dulfour.
CMU tied the game at two with a run in the sixth, but Concordia scored the game-winning run on an error in the bottom of the sixth.
Colorado Mesa (1-5) will open RMAC play at Fort Lewis Feb. 20
