Box ScoreSILVER CITY, N.M. – Colorado Mesa used a strong defensive effort to wrangle the Western New Mexico Mustangs 55-43 on Friday evening at Drags Court in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball contest.
The Mavericks limited Western New Mexico to just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field and held them to 20 points in the second half. The Mavericks also forced 13 turnovers which led to 17 points.
Colorado Mesa led by as many as 16 points with 3:26 left to play in the fourth quarter and led for over 34 minutes in the game. The Mavericks owned a 23-9 advantage on bench points.
That edge was thanks in large part to
Jaylyn Duran's 14 points off the bench. Duran was 5-of-8 from the field including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc in 23 minutes of work.
Bryanna Adams led all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
Erika Musante finished with a game-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
The Mustangs were led by Desiree Smith who had nine points.
Colorado Mesa improves to 13-7 on the season and 10-6 in the RMAC while the Mustnags fall to 7-14 on the year and 5-11 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks are currently in seventh place in the conference still just a game out of fourth place and two games out of third.
The Mavericks will travel to Las Vegas for a matchup tomorrow night against New Mexico Highlands at 5pm.
