GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team opened with a 3-2 loss to Colorado Christian before defeating Chadron State Saturday (Feb. 27).
Zoe Pakes hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for the Mavericks only two runs in the game.
The Mavericks led until the top of the fourth inning when Charlotte Romero hit a three-run homer down the right field line.
McKenzie Surface (2-3) struck out 10 and gave up all three earned runs on six hits in the loss for CMU.
CMU opened with three runs in the bottom of the first inning against CSC.
Zoe Pakes singled through the left side to drive in a pair of runs. The Mavs would score one more on a single by
Kellie Mrofcza.
Pakes recorded her third RBI of the game, and fifth of the day, with a single down the left line.
The Mavs tacked on their fifth run in the sixth on a single by
Baylee Boren.
The Eagles made a late rally scoring two runs on four hits in the seventh.
Rochelle Talamante (5-3) earned the win allowing two runs on eight hits.
Colorado Mesa (6-7, 5-1) will host Chadron State and Colorado Christian Sunday (Feb. 27).Â
