GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Mavericks drop their home opener against Regis 15-12 Saturday (Feb. 20) at Walker Field.
 
The Mavs were strong in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Lexie Chavez scoring a hat trick, and goals from Ashley Eickhoff and Jessica Cook gave the Mavs a 6-1 lead.
 
The Mavs lead the first half in shots 15-14, and held a 7-6 edge in ground balls. Turnovers were a struggle for the Mavs in first half with 12 turnovers compared to seven for Regis.
 
The Mavs went into the half leading 8-7.
 
The second half was a struggle for the Mavs with elongated Regis possessions.
 
Regis outshot the Mavs in the second half 20-9. The Rangers also scooped up more ground balls in the second half (10-6).
 
Turnovers killed the Mavs with a total of 21 turnovers in the game compared with 11 for the Rangers.
 
Lexi Chavez finished the game with four goals. Multiple Mavs had two-point games.
 
Melissa Hastie led the Rangers with four goals.
 
Colorado Mesa will play at Adams State March 5^th.
