GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Four Mavericks finished in double figures for the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team in a 70-60 win over Regis on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena. The win moves the Mavericks record to 17-8 on the season and 14-7 in the RMAC while Regis falls to 17-10 and 15-6 in the conference play.
After trailing 34-31 at halftime, the Mavericks outscored the Rangers 39-26 in the second half thanks in large part to
Sydney Small's 15 second half points.
Small was 4-of-6 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the second half. She was also responsible for guarding one of the best players in the RMAC in Ranger Bay'lee Purdy. Small limited Purdy to nine points and 1-for-6 from beyond the three-point line.
Junior
Bryanna Adams led all scorers with 22 points, scoring 11 in each half. She was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line but just 2-for-12 from the three-point line.
Laurin Rivera and
Siu Lo'amanu each scored 11 points.
Erika Musante had a game-high eight rebounds.
The Mavericks led by as many as 15 points with 56 second left in the fourth quarter at 70-55 while Regis led for three minutes in the game by as many as three with 17 seconds left in the second quarter.
Colorado Mesa's defense was the difference in the game forcing 18 Ranger turnovers that led to 16 points and held them to just nine points in the third quarter.
The Mavericks will play their final regular season game on Friday when they host Westminster at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
