GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Five pitchers combined to shutout Nebraska – Kearney on Sunday afternoon in a 6-0 win for ninth-ranked Colorado Mesa at Suplizio Field.
Matt Allen took the ball for game two and went four and two-thirds before giving way to the bullpen. Allen allowed four hits, walked one and struck out two but did not factor into the decision.
After
Josh Ballard got one out,
Nick Romito came in and pitched an inning and allowed a walk and struck out two to earn the win in relief.
Tanner Herdt and
Mike Roberts combined to pitch the final three innings and allowed one hit and a walk.
Offensively, the Mavericks scored single runs in both the second and third innings before opening it up in the seventh with four runs.
Zach McLeod,
Nick Borowski and
James Young III all finished with two hits in the game.
Greg Reynolds finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored and a run driven in. He had the lone extra base hit in the game.
The Mavericks will look for the sweep on Monday afternoon with a single nine-inning game beginning at 2:30pm.
