Jaylyn Duran hit a buzzer beater for the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team to defeat South Dakota Mines 54-52 Saturday afternoon at Goodell Gymnasium.
Colorado Mesa went into the third quarter trailing 21-19 after being down by as many as nine in the first half.
The Mavs held the Hardrockers to 13 points in the third quarter before going on a 6-0 run in the fourth.
The Mavs got their first lead of the half with 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter after
Jaylyn Duran hit a three to make the score 51-50. Megan Rohrer would get fouled and made both free throws for the Hardrockers to put them up 52-50 with 13 seconds left in the game.
Nicole Archambeau would miss a three-point attempt with five seconds left, but
Erika Musante would get the offensive rebound and kicked it out to
Jaylyn Duran who would end up with the ball and hit a three from the top of the key to give the Mavs the win.
Erika Musante led the Mavs with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and seven rebounds.
Duran finished with nine points shooting 3-for-5 from the three-point line.
Devyn Ashe led South Dakota Mines with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Mavericks will return home next weekend when they host Chadron State and Regis in Brownson Arena on Friday and Saturday.
