DENVER – MSU Denver dominated play in the paint and scored 20 points off turnovers in a 67-57 win over the Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team Friday (Dec. 30).
Bryanna Adams led the Mavericks with 22 points and made four of the Maverick's six 3-pointers.
Erin Reichle was the other CMU player in double figures with 13.
The Mavericks had only seven players score in the contest with only six points coming off the bench.
Mesa struggled offensively from the start shooting 18-percent (2-11) from the field in the first quarter.
The Mavericks found its stride offensively in the second out-scoring the Roadrunners 12-11 in the second but trailed 25-22 at the half.
Bryanna Adams drained a 3-pointer early in the third to cut the MSUD lead to just two, 31-29, but the Roadrunners responded with seven unanswered points to push its lead back to nine.
The Mavericks never led in the game but kept the deficit to single digits until early in the fourth quarter when a lay-up by Georgia Ohrdorf pushed the lead to 10, 52-42.
Mesa shot 36-percent (18-49) from the field for the game compared to 47-percent (22-46) for Metro.
The Mavs shot better from the line 71-percent (15-21) to 63-percent (21-33) but trailed in total makes (21-15).
Colorado Mesa won the rebounding battle (34-30) but turned the ball over 16 times to 11 by Metro.
Jaelynn Smith led Metro with 22 points, including 10 from the line. Georgia Ohrdorf added 21.
Colorado Mesa (8-3, 5-2) will host Chadron State Jan. 6.
