Volleyball Heads to NCAA Tournament

NCAA TOURNAMENT
Colorado Mesa is making their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament after qualifying as the No. 7 seed this season. The Mavericks are 6-6 all-time in the tournament having posted wins the past two seasons. A year ago, the Mavericks defeated Tarleton State to open the South Central Regional in San Angelo.

AGAINST THE FIELD
The Mavericks went 2-7 against the entire NCAA Tournament field and 2-5 against the South Central Region field this season. Their lone wins came against Tarleton State on the road and against then ranked No. 18 Colorado Mines in Brownson Arena.

THE MATCHUP
Colorado Mesa did not fare so well against the Roadrunners during the regular season, dropping both matches to them.  The Mavericks hit a combined .162 and committed 53 errors combined in the two matches.

THE ROADRUNNERS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
MSU Denver is making their 17th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament that dates back to the 2000 season. They have an overall record of 10-23 in the tournament and have not won since 2010 when they defeated Wayne State 3-1. The Roadrunners made one trip to the region finals (2009) in their 17 year stretch.

FRESH START
Colorado Mesa will be looking for a fresh start with the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks are currently on a five match losing streak that took place in the month of November. CMU was 8-1 in the month of October where they dropped just eight total sets in the month.

BLOCKS
Blocking has been one of the Mavericks crutches during the year. When Colorado Mesa out blocks their opponents, they are 9-0 this season.

ASSISTS
Senior Ali Svorinic is just 13 assists shy of hitting 1,000 for the season. Last season, Svorinic finished with 1,084 which is her season-high as a Maverick.

SWINGING
Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards ranks in the top-50 in NCAA II in kills per set with 3.77. She has a season-high 23 kills against Regis and Colorado Christian, both were five set matches.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
Colorado Mesa is 4-0 in the state of Texas (Tarleton State Tournament) and 4-0 against schools from Texas (Dallas Baptist, Lubbock Christian, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce).
