GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball came from behind for an 84-74 win against former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Western New Mexico in the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks trailed by as many as 13 points that came at halftime. They tied the game at 54-54 with 1:03 left in the third quarter and their first lead came at the 7:30 mark of the fourth quarter on a free-throw by
Nicole Archambeau.
Archambeau finished the night with a team-high 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in 31 minutes of play.
Erin Reichle had 12 points on the night on 5-of-13 shooting from the field but no shot was bigger than her lone three-pointer she hit with 3:42 to play in the third quarter that cut the Mustang lead to five at 48-43. The basket helped the Mavericks to a 14-9 run to end the quarter.
The Mavericks had their best quarter of the season in the fourth where they scored 30 points and limited Western New Mexico to just 17 points.
Bryanna Adams scored 12 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter on 4-of-5 shooting from the field including 2-for-2 from beyond the three-point arc.
Adams had the tough duty of guarding one of the nation's hottest players in Western New Mexico's Jaylynn Fields. Field's scored a game-high 22 points but Adams held her scoreless in the final minutes of the game (0-for-3 from the field).
Colorado Mesa had six players in double-figures and held a rebounding margin of plus-25 (55-30).
After struggling from the free-throw line last night, the Mavericks came out and shot 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the line.
Colorado Mesa will travel to Gunnison on Tuesday to open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play against Western State at 5:30pm.
