GUNNISON, Colo. –
CJ Davis led the Mavericks with 22 points but that wasn't enough as the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team dropped an 85-78 decision to Wayland Baptist on Saturday (Nov. 19) evening in Paul Wright Gym in the Comfort Inn Classic.
The Mavericks led by 11 at the 13:49 mark of the first half but couldn't hold onto the lead. They still trailed by just one heading into halftime, 41-40.
Colorado Mesa tied it up at 70-70 after a
CJ Davis three-point basket with 5:13 to play but the Pioneers ended the game on a 15-8 run that included four costly Maverick turnovers.
Davis shot 43 percent (6-of-14) from the field and made four of his three-point shots. He pulled down a career-high eight rebounds and handed out two assists.
The biggest discrepancy in the game was on the glass. Wayland Baptist held a 44-35 edge in rebounds which limited the Mavericks to many one shot and out possessions.

Tanner Riley chipped in a career-high 11 points, hitting on both of his three-point attempts.
Colorado Mesa falls to 1-3 on the season.
