Football to Play for RMAC Title

Colorado Mesa will play its final conference game of the season when it hosts South Dakota Mines Saturday (Nov. 5). With a win Saturday, the Mavericks will be the conference champions. South Dakota Mines enters the contest with a 5-4 overall record and a 4-4 league mark. The Hardrockers have lost their last games. 

Series History
Saturday will be the first meeting between Colorado Mesa and South Dakota Mines. 

Conference Champs
Colorado Mesa was named the 2015 RMAC Champions after CSU-Pueblo forfeited the title after using an eligible player. 

Record Day
Colorado Mesa set several RMAC records last week against New Mexico Highlands. The Mavericks scored 12 total touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns, both RMAC records. CMU tallied 933 yards of total offense, a new league record. Mesa set the previous record of 826 yards of total offense the previous week against Adams State. 

Rushing
Colorado Mesa ran for an RMAC record 708 rushing yards last week against New Mexico Highlands. CMU's 708 rushing yards is the most by any team in college football this season. Mesa's 708 rushing yards is more than five teams in Div. II have all season, and CMU ranks 12th nationally in rushing offense (249.8).

Player of the Week
For the second straight week running back David Tann was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter Player of the Week. Tann rushed for 273 yards (10.1 ypc) and four touchdowns in Colorado Mesa's 87-14 win at New Mexico Highlands last week. He ranks second in NCAA Div. II in four categories; rushing touchdowns (18), total touchdowns (23), scoring (15.3) and total points scored (138).

Punt Return
Josh Brown returned a punt 90-yards for a touchdown, his second of the season, last week against New Mexico Highlands. Brown is one of five players in Div. II to return two punt for a touchdown. Colorado Mesa ranks 10th in the nation in punt returns averaging 17.9 yards per return. 

Scoring Offense
Colorado Mesa scored an average of 75 points in its last two games and ranks eighth in Div. II in scoring offense at 43.4 points per game.

What About Pitchford?
Punter Austin Pitchford has not punted since 10:19 of the third quarter in the game against Dixie State, a span of 145:19. He is averaging 40.2 yards per punt but is not ranked nationally because he is does not meet the minimums. Pitchford has contributed for the Mavericks serving as the holder. CMU is 16-for-20 (.800) on field goals and a perfect 47-for-47 on extra points. 

First Downs
Colorado Mesa ranks eighth in Div. II in first downs with 233. 

Fourth Down
The Mavericks ranks 17th in Div. II in fourth down conversion at 64-percent. 

Red Zone Offense
Colorado Mesa ranks 13th in Div. II in red zone offense at 90-percent. 

Regional Poll
Colorado Mesa moved up one spot to ninth in the NCAA Super Region Four Poll. The top-seven teams will make the NCAA Playoffs. Complete poll listed on page four. 

Looking Ahead
Colorado Mesa will close out the regular season when it hosts Azusa Pacific in a non-conference match-up Nov. 12.
