Mavericks Earn 6-0 Win over the Yellow Jackets

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team earned a 6-0 win over the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match Sunday (Oct. 30) at Walker Field. It was the regular season finale for both teams.

The Mavericks first goal skied over the defenders from outside the box by Alexis Allard in the third minute of the match, assisted by Amanda Wenzel.

Shortly after the Mavericks first goal came their second in the seventh minute, by Senior Taylor Bruno and was assisted by Ryanne Parker

During the 11th minute of the match, Amanda Wenzel's shot deflected off a defender past the goalkeeper, for the Mavericks third goal.

Amanda Wenzel got the goalkeeper out of the net for her second goal of the match and the teams fourth during the 34th minute.

The Mavericks were awarded a penalty kick after the official called a handball against the Yellow Jacks inside the box. Senior Lauryn Lee converted for her first goal of the season.

Alexis Allard had her second goal of the match in the 61st minute, when she chipped the ball over the Yellow Jackets goal keeper.

The Mavericks controlled the ball not allowing the Yellow Jackets to take a single shot during regulation, while taking 41 shots, 21 shots on goal, and 14 corner kicks.

The last time the Mavericks scored six goals in a match was in 2007 against Adams State (W 6-1).

The Mavericks qualified for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 2012 and will be hosting for the first time since 2011. Both matches came against MSU Denver who they will face on Wednesday (Nov. 2) at 6 PM at Walker Field.
