Men's Soccer Claims RMAC Championship

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 21 Colorado Mesa men's soccer claimed their second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship in three years after defeating No. 7 Regis 3-2 in a double overtime thriller on Friday afternoon at Regis Match Pitch.

Regis got on the board first in the second half on a penalty kick goal in the 48th minute from Cameron McCaslin. It was his first goal of the season.

Colorado Mesa answered back in the 60th minute on junior Trentin Atkin's third goal of the season. Atkin's goal was unassisted as he took a rebound off another shot and buried it in the back of the net.

Just under two minutes later, Moshe Perez scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead in the match. Perez took a pass from Malik Mennana at the top of the box and found the top right corner of the goal.

With just 23 seconds left in the match, Regis got a header goal from Tom Grimsley to tie the match at 2-2. It was his eighth goal of the season and sent the match to overtime.

With just over two minutes left in the second overtime, Colorado Mesa was awarded a penalty kick and who better to take it than one of the nation's top goal scorers in Roy Abergil. Abergil converted the PK for his 25th of the season.

Colorado Mesa improved to 13-1-3 on the season and 12-0-1 in the RMAC while Regis falls to 12-3-1 and 9-3-1 in the conference.

The RMAC Tournament semifinals and championship will be hosted at Walker Field on November 4-6.

The Mavericks will play South Dakota Mines in Rapid City to close out the regular season on Sunday.
