CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team opened up the exhibition season this evening with a game against NCAA Div. I Southern Utah. The Mavericks fell 75-70 to the Thunderbirds but did show a couple of glimpses of what's to come this season.
The Mavericks outshot Southern Utah 42.9-42.2 and was at or over 50 percent from the field for most of the evening. They shot 37.1 percent (13-for-35) from the three-point line but was just 60 percent (9-for-15) from the charity stripe.
The biggest discrepancy in the game came on the glass. Southern Utah outrebounded Colorado Mesa 43-29 including 18 offensive rebounds that led to eight second chance points.
The night marked the return of 2015-16 RMAC Preseason Player of the Year
Erin Reichle who played in her first contest since March of 2015. She led the Mavericks in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting. She added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Bryanna Adams finished with 12 points including 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
Sophomore
Nicole Archambeau had a productive night scoring 11 points, pulling down six rebounds and handing out five assists in 30 minutes of action.
Newcomer
Ma'ata Epenisa led the Mavericks in rebounds with six.
Colorado Mesa will have one more exhibition game before the season begins. They will play at BYU next Friday November 4 at the Marriott Center in Provo.
