LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team scored the golden goal just 1:22 into the overtime period for a 2-1 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon at Perkins Stadium.
The Mavericks scored the first goal of the match in the 10
th minute of the match when
Ryanne Parker scored her first goal of the season. Parker's goal was assisted by
Madi Chaffee and gave the Mavericks the early 1-0 lead.
Highlands answered with a goal in the 76
th minute off the foot of Samantha Mendez, her second of the season.
Just inside the overtime period,
Halie Bergeron scored her second goal of the season and gave the Mavericks the 2-1 edge. Her game-winner was assisted by
Madison Rasimas.
Colorado Mesa improved to 8-6-2 on the season and 6-4-1 in the RMAC while the Cowgirls fell to 3-10-1, 3-7-0 in the conference.
The Mavericks have officially qualified for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament and have a chance to host a first round matchup.
Colorado Mesa will be home at Walker Field for their final match of the regular season on Sunday at 1:30pm against Black Hills State.
