Football Hosts Dixie State Saturday

No. 23 Colorado Mesa enters this weeks game with a 5-1 record after dropping its first game of the season last week at Black Hills State. Dixie State enters with a 3-3 record and has won its last two games.

Colorado Mesa fell to No. 23 in the latest AFCA Div. II poll after last weeks loss. 

Series History
Colorado Mesa has a 17-6-1 all-time record against Dixie State in a series that dates back to 1938. CMU has won the last five meetings against DSU and 11 of the last 14. 

Redzone Offense
Colorado Mesa was a perfect 4-for-4 in the redzone last weekend against Black Hills State scoring three touchdowns and one field goal. The Mavericks lead the RMAC and rank ninth in the nation in redzone offense at 93-percent. 

Defensive Touchdowns
Colorado Mesa ranks 24th in the nation and third in the RMAC in defensive touchdowns with two. Dustin Rivas returned an interception 22-yards for a touchdown against Chadron State, and Eystin Salum recovered a fumble in the endzone against Fort Lewis. 

National Leader
Kicker Ryan Sheehan continues to lead the nation in field goals per game with 2.33, ranks sixth in field goal percentage at .875 (14-16) and 14th in scoring (10.7 ppg). Last week he kicked field goals from 38- and a season-long 45-yards.

Punt Return Touchdown
Josh Brown became the 49th player in Div. II to return a punt for a touchdown when he returned a punt 85-yards to the endzone against Black Hills State. The last Maverick to return a punt for a touchdown was Dustin Rivas who returned a punt 85-yards against Adams State on Sept. 19, 2015. 

Rushing Yards
Colorado Mesa rushed for a season-high 307 yards at Black Hills last weekend. The Mavericks previous high was 188 yards against Western State. 

Man of Many Talents
Junior Dustin Rivas ranks in the top-25 in three different statistical categories; sixth in blocked kicks (two), seventh in interceptions per game (0.8) and 13th in punt returns (14.2 ypr). 

Tops in the Centennial State
Colorado Mesa has the most wins of any college football team in the state of the Colorado this season.

First and Last
The fourth quarter has been the highest scoring for the Mavericks who have scored 67 points in the fourth. The first quarter has been the second-highest with 50 points. 

200-Yard Passer
Last weeks loss at Black Hills State was the first time this season that Colorado Mesa did not have a 200-yard passer. CMU is 5-0 this season when it has a 200-yard passer.

Colorado Mesa will host Adams State for Homecoming Oct. 22nd.
