DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa overcame a nine point halftime deficit in a 59-45 win over the MSU Denver Roadrunners on Friday evening at the Auraria Events Center in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball contest.
The Roadrunners led by as many as 12 at 23-11 with 5:39 in the second quarter before settling for a 31-22 halftime lead.
The Mavericks would start to climb back into the contest. Colorado Mesa outscored MSU Denver 31-14 in the second half and took their first lead at 41-40 with 51 seconds left in the third quarter. The Mavericks went on a 15-0 run from that point that ended at the 3:44 mark left in the fourth quarter.
Colorado Mesa shot a little over 39 percent (20-of-51) from the field on the night and over 40 percent (11-of-27) from the three-point line. More importantly, they limited the Roadrunners to just 23 percent (13-of-55) and just three made three-point baskets.
After being outrebounded 36-23 in the previous meeting in December, the Mavericks outrebounded the Roadrunners 42-32.
Sydney Small led the way with 14 rebounds with 12 coming on the defensive end.
Bryanna Adams finished with a game-high 18 points on 4-of-14 shooting but all four made field goals came from beyond the three-point line.
Nicole Archambeau was the only other Maverick in double figures with 11 points.
Erika Musante finished the night with eight points and six rebounds. On the defensive end, she had five blocked shots and a steal.
MSU Denver was led by the 15 points and seven rebounds of Georgia Ohrdorf.
The Mavericks will try to extend their win streak to four when they take on UCCS tomorrow night at 5pm in Colorado Springs.
