Player of the Week
Ryan Stephan was named the United State Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the week for his dominating performance last week. Stephan averaged 37.5 points and 17.5 rebounds per game as the Mavericks improved to 13-6 overall and 9-4 in RMAC play. On the season, he is currently the second-leading scorer in Division II with 25.8 points per game, and he is the fourth-leading Division II rebounder with 11.5 rebounds per game. After scoring 33 points with 21 rebounds in a 105-80 win at Regis, Stephan poured in a career-high 42 points in a win against Chadron State. He was three points from tying the Colorado Mesa single-game scoring record, and he also registered 14 rebounds in the 85-72 victory. For the week, Stephan shot 67.4 percent (29-for-43) from the field with two three-pointers, and he was 78.9 percent (15-for-19) from the free throw line on the week.
RMAC Title Race
Colorado Mesa is currently tied for second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and is just one game behind first place. CMU is poised for a big run with its final nine opponents owning a combined 68-96 overall record. Only four of the nine opponents currently have a winning record and CMU has a 4-1 record against its final nine opponents this season.
Century Mark
Colorado Mesa tied its single game high with 105 points at Regis last week. The Mavs previous high was 105 against Webber International on Nov. 27th. CMU is averaging 82.2 points per game, fourth most in the RMAC.
