CHADRON, Neb. – Colorado Mesa held Chadron State to just 17 points in the second half in a 72-40 win Maverick victory on Saturday evening in the Chicione Center. The Mavericks improved to 11-6 on the season and 8-5 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks led for over 39 minutes in the game and led by as many as 36 points in the game that came with 1:34 left in the final quarter of play.
The defense held the Eagles without a three-point basket in the game and limited them to just seven points in the third quarter. They also forced 16 turnovers that led to 28 points.
Colorado Mesa shot over 44 percent (27-of-61) from the field and drained 6-of-7 shots from the free-throw line.
Ashley Stevens had 17 points off the bench and made a career-high five three-point baskets. She was 6-for-9 from the field that came in just 20 minutes of play.
Sydney Small also had 17 points while
Bryanna Adams chipped in 12 points.
Maka Daysh led the Eagles with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Mavericks will return home for a pair of games next weekend in Brownson Arena. On Friday, they will take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves before finishing the weekend with a showdown against Western State on Saturday.
