Match notes vs. Westminster and South Dakota MinesLAST WEEKENDColorado Mesa earned a weekend split of games at Walker Field. They earned a 3-0 win over UCCS on Friday and fell to MSU Denver 2-0 on Sunday.
Roy Abergil scored a pair of goals and
James McGhee added another in the 3-0 win over UCCS. Against MSU Denver, the Mavericks didnt find the back of the net and surrendered a goal in each half to snap a two match winning streak against the Roadrunners.
THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTSThe Mavericks dont have a ton of history against either Westminster or South Dakota Mines. The Mavericks have won a pair of home matches against the Griffins at Walker Field in the late 00's. They also have just a lone matchup against the Hardrockers at Walker Field, a 3-1 win back in 2013.
SHUTDOWN DEFENSEThe Mavericks allowed just three shots to UCCS last Friday. It was the first time since October 26, 2014 that they limited a team to less then four shots in a game. Adams State took only three shots in the match which was a 3-0 win for Colorado Mesa last season.
ALL-TIME MARKSJunior
Roy Abergil has now reached the No. 2 position on the all-time points chart with a pair of goals against UCCS on Friday night. He trails only Eric Anderson in points and goals scored. Roy needs two goals to tie Anderson on the goals scored list and six points for a tie atop the points chart.
DEFENSE SCORES GOALS?Colorado Mesa's defensive players have played key roles on set peices this season. Freshman
James McGhee has a pair of goals, both coming on corner kicks. All-American
Blake Carlson has come into the box on corner kicks and has just missed on numerous header opportunities.Â

Oscar Odriozola hail from Mexico. Junior

Moshe Perez both come from Israel.
COACHINGTodd Padgett is in his second season coaching the Mavericks. He had an extermely successful first season, finishing 18-4-1 and leading the Mavericks all the way to the NCAA National Semifinals in Louisville, Ky.Â
The Mavericks will have four assistants helping them out this season with
Stan Schrock returning as the top assistant. Schrock was an Academic All-American and All-Region defender a year ago.
2014 NCAA NATIONAL SEMIFINALISTSThe Mavericks had their second straight season of firsts. In 2013, they won the RMAC Tournament for the first time in program history. They followed that up with their first NCAA Tournament appearance, NCAA Tournament win, and South Central Region title.
RMAC PRESEASON POLLColorado Mesa was picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll but received four first place votes.
Roy Abergil and
Blake Carlson were selected to the preseason All-RMAC team with Carlson earning preseason defensive player of the year.
