Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored a goal with just under 10 minutes to play to secure a 2-1 win over the visiting Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer contest.
Amanda Wenzel scored her first goal of the season at the 80:16 mark of the match to give the Mavericks the lead for good. Wenzel took a long pass from
Lauryn Lee and scored just inside the far post.
At the five minute mark of the match, Colorado Christian took the lead on a Kielli Jordan goal off a corner kick.
At the 5:57 mark, the match was tied on an
Ashley Wallace goal from
Sarah Pope. Wallace and Pope had a 2-on-1 break with Wallace finishing for her first goal of the season.
Freshman
Janelle Richmond-Buccola made four saves in net to earn her first career victory.
The Mavericks win was their first since October 31 of last season.
The Mavericks will take to the road next weekend and take on Fort Lewis and Adams State.
