GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa opened up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-2 win over the fourth seed Adams State on Thursday evening at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks move their record to 44-6 on the season.
The Mavericks answered after every Adams State score.
Adams State scored in the first and fourth innings and Colorado Mesa answered right back, matching the Grizzlies each time.
Alex Fife's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Mavericks their first lead and only lead of the game, scoring
Andy Scott from second. Scott led the inning off with a hustle double to left center.
Bligh Madris was the lone Maverick with multiple hits in the game.
Tyler Ehlers got the start in the opener and battled through eight innings on the mound. Ehlers allowed two runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He is now 8-0 on the season.
Joey Capistran picked up his fourth save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Colorado Mesa played errorless defense and turned one double play in the game while Adams State made three errors which led to a Maverick run in the first inning.
The Mavericks will play MSU Denver in the semifinal tomorrow at 3:30pm at Suplizio Field.
