TAMPA, Fla. –
Steve Brandenburg scored six goals to lead Colorado Mesa to an upset win over the No. 8 Tampa Spartans at Naimoli Stadium on Friday night. The Mavericks improve to 9-3 on the season while the Spartans fell to 14-3 to close out their regular season.
Brandenburg scored his six goals on ten shots. He scored four first-half goals and two in the second half.
The only thing more impressive then Brandenburg's goals was the Maverick defense.
Colorado Mesa limited to just six goals on 31 shots and forced 14 turnovers. They shutout Tampa in the first quarter and limited them to just one goal in the fourth quarter.
Dane Dixson was 8-for-13 on his faceoff opportunities and picked up five groundballs.
Zach Weaver earned the win between the pipes and made eight saves.
The Mavericks will close out their season on Sunday with a game against Rollins that begins at 9am mountain time.
