Mavericks Split Doubleheader with Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with the MSU Denver Roadrunners at the Regency Athletic Complex. The Mavericks are now 39-6 on the season and 31-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
In game one, MSU Denver's Daryl Baca hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out to give the Roadrunners the 5-4 win. The win was MSU Denver's first against Colorado Mesa this season.
 
The Mavericks trailed heading into the seventh inning but tied it up on an RBI single by Kevan Elcock.
 
Alex Fife, Zach McLeod and Kevin Mitchell each had two hits in the game.
 
Matt Allen took the loss in relief.
 
In the second game, Bligh Madris earned his first win of the season in his first career start in the Mavericks 8-3 win over MSU Denver. Madris went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, walked three and struck out three.
 
Kevin Mitchell provided most of the offense in the game. Mitchell went 3-for-4 with five runs driven in. He hit a grand slam in the first inning for his eighth home run of the season.
 
Alex Fife was the only other Maverick with multiple hits with two.
 
Colorado Mesa will clinch the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship with a win on Sunday over MSU Denver. First pitch has been moved up to 11am due to inclement weather forecast for the greater Denver area.
