DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa extended its current winning streak to six games after a 7-4 win over the MSU Denver Roadrunners at the Regency Athletic Complex on Friday evening. The top ranked Mavericks are now 38-5 on the season and 30-3 in the RMAC. Their magic number now sits at three (combined Maverick wins and CSU-Pueblo losses).
The Mavericks took an early 2-0 lead in the first two innings of the game, highlighted by an
Austin Wallingford RBI single in the first and a
Mitch Robinson solo home run in the second.
MSU Denver came back and answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and a single run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
Colorado Mesa responded with three runs in the sixth and picked up a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 7-4 advantage.
Wallingford finished the game with three hits, two runs scored and a run driven in.
Alex Fife finished the night with three hits as well while Robinson and
Bligh Madris each had a pair of hits.
Tyler Ehlers picked up his seventh win of the season. Ehlers pitched six innings and allowed four runs on 11 hits, walked one and struck out three.
Joey Capistran picked up his third save of the season, pitching the final inning of the game and allowed one hit while striking out two.
The Mavericks and Roadrunners will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12pm.
