Softball Drops Pair of Pivotal Games

CHADRON, Neb. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team dropped a pair of pivotal games in Chadron, Neb. Friday (April 24).

MSU Denver defeated Colorado Mesa 6-3 in nine innings. Mesa dropped its second game of the day 6-5 to Chadron State.

The losses move CMU to second place in the RMAC standings. CMU can still win the RMAC regular season title with a pair of wins Saturday combined with a pair of losses by MSU Denver.

The Roadrunners struck first with one run in the top of the first thanks to a pair of walks.

Zoe Pakes doubled down the left field line to score two CMU runs in the bottom of the inning.

Both teams plated one run in the fifth and MSUD added another in the sixth to tie the game.

The Roadrunners scored three runs on two homeruns in the ninth for the win.

The Mavericks got out to an early lead in the second game against Chadron. Mesa scored two runs in the first and three more in the third thanks to a two run homer by Zoe

Pakes to lead 5-1. Pakes led the Mavericks hitting 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk.

The Eagles hit a pair of homeruns in the fifth inning to close the Maverick lead to 5-3.

Three CMU errors and one hit by Chadron led to two runs in the sixth to give CSC a 6-5 lead that would hold up for the win.

Colorado Mesa (32-19, 28-9) will close out the regular season with games against Chadron State and MSU Denver Saturday (April 24).
