SALT LAKE CITY – The Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team scored four of the last five goals of the game to defeat Westminster 17-16 Saturday (April 18).
The Griffons scored seven of the first eight goals in the game to lead 9-6 at halftime.
The Mavericks responded scoring six of the first nine goals of the second half to tie the game at 12.
With the game tied at 16,
Lydia Furrow scored with six seconds remaining to give the Mavericks the win.
Stats were nearly even in the contest with Colorado Mesa leading in shots (36-35) and draw controls (20-15). Westminster led 18-17 in ground balls.
Lydia Furrow led the Mavericks with six goals and two assists.
Ashley Eickhoff and
Kayla Lyall each scored three goals for Mesa.
Kira Heiden led Westminster with six goals.
Jillian Pfeifer earned the win for CMU making 13 saves and allowing 16 goals.
CMU improves to 8-5 on the year and will host Adams State in the regular season finale April 26
