DENVER, Colo. – Top ranked Colorado Mesa defeated the Regis Rangers on Sunday afternoon 14-9 at Regis Baseball Field. The Mavericks improve to 33-5 on the season and 25-3 in the RMAC, making them the first team to clinch a playoff spot in the conference.
The Mavericks benefitted from the big inning in the game. They scored seven runs in the second, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and two in the ninth.
The seven run second was highlighted by a pair of RBI doubles by
Jake Druce and
Bligh Madris.
Druce finished the game 2-for-5 with a run scored and a run driven in.
The offensive got a big lift from
Austin Wallingford who hit a pair of home runs to bring his season total to 10. He delivered his first of the day in the fourth with a two-run shot to left field. Then in the sixth, he went hard way with an opposite field shot to right field. He finished the day with four runs driven in.
Matt Allen earned the win on the mound in the series finale. Allen went six innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out two to pick up his fourth win.
The Mavericks will be back on the road in Denver next weekend with a four game, two doubleheader series with Colorado Christian.
