GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Brooke Hodgson delivered a pair of walkoff hits for Colorado Mesa in a doubleheader sweep of the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Saturday evening at the CMU Softball Stadium. The wins propelled the Mavericks into first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference by one percentage point over MSU Denver.
In game one, Hodgson delivered a one-out, RBI double that scored
Makayla Kovac from first base to cap the Mavericks come back 11-10.
Colorado Mesa trailed Fort Lewis 8-0 after an inning and a half of play but scored five in the bottom of the second and four runs in the bottom of the fourth to crawl back into the ball game.
Fort Lewis outhit Colorado Mesa in the game 18-11 that included three home runs in the first two innings.
Kovac finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. She hit her ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field in the fourth inning.
Rachel Boothe was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. She hit her third big fly of the season, a solo shot that began the Mavericks four-run fourth inning.
In game two, Hogdson hammered a one-out, two-run home run to send Colorado Mesa to an 8-0 win over Fort Lewis in six innings.
Hodgson finished the game with three hits, two runs scored and two runs driven in.
The Mavericks opened the game up in the second inning with a six-run inning.
Rachel Boothe and
Zoe Pakes each delivered a round-tripper in the inning.
Rochelle Talamantes kept the Skyhawks off-balance in her six innings of work. She allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out one while picking up her sixth win of the season.
Saturday was 'Swing For Life' day at the ballpark. Proceeds collected from the game benefit the Huntsmans Cancer Research. The Swing For Life organization is ran by Colorado Mesa alum Kathy Howa.
The Mavericks and Skyhawks will complete the four-game series tomorrow at 11am.
