Mavericks and Rangers Split Doubleheader

DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa split a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Regis Rangers on Saturday afternoon at Regis Baseball Field. The Mavericks record moves to 31-5 on the year and 24-3 in the RMAC with a three and a half game lead on first place.
 
In game one, the Mavericks led by one heading to the seventh but scored four insurance runs to capture an 11-6 win over the Rangers. Colorado Mesa outhit the Rangers in the game 14-11 with five extra base-hits.
 
Bligh Madris paced the Maverick attack with a 4-for-5 game with three doubles and five runs batted in.
 
Zach McLeod also had four hits with two doubles, four runs scored and three runs driven in.
 
Lefty Ryan Reno picked up his ninth win of the season after pitching 5.2 innings. Reno allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits, and struck out five.
 
Reno gave way to the bullpen which limited Regis to just two hits in the final inning and a third.
 
In game two, Colorado Mesa gave away a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning but allowed four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to fall 7-5 to Regis.
 
PJ Gonzalez was the lone Maverick with multiple hits in the game.
 
Nick Cardinale took the loss on the hill falling to 4-2 on the season. Cardinale went 4.2 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits, walked three and struck out three.
 
The Mavericks and Rangers will conclude their series tomorrow with a single nine inning game at noon.
