PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team split a pair of games Sunday (March 8) in Pueblo, Colo. The Mavericks improve to 12-9 overall and 8-1 in league play.
The Mavericks opened the day with two hits in a 3-2 loss to Regis.
Megan Brown opened the game with a bunt single and would go on to steal home for the first run of the game.
The Rangers tied the game in the third with a solo home run to right field by Nicole Hull. She would follow up with a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Jo Bolyard singled through the right side to drive in the other Maverick run in the bottom of the fourth.
Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo combined for 28 hits before the Mavericks claimed a 9-6 win in nine innings.
Makayla Kovac and
Sarah Phillis each hit two-run home runs to give CMU an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
Pueblo would score one in the bottom of the first, and Mesa would plate one in the top of the second.
The Thunderwolves exploded for four runs on five hits to tie the game at 5-5 after three innings.
Neither team could manufacture a run until the eighth inning when both teams scored one.
CMU scored three runs on three hits in the top of the ninth for the win.

Sarah Phillis each finishing with two.
Brooke Hodgson (8-3) earned the relief win giving up six hits and one earned run in five innings.
CMU will host New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series March 14-15.Â
