SILVER CITY, N.M. – Colorado Mesa and Western New Mexico split Sunday's (March 29) RMAC softball doubleheader.
The Mustangs won game one 6-3, and the Mavericks won game two 9-4.
Western New Mexico scored all six of its runs in game one while holding the Mavericks scoreless until the seventh inning.
Makayla Kovac hit a three-run homerun for the Mavericks in the top of the seventh.
WNMU out-hit CMU 9-7 and Mesa committed three errors to Western's one.
The Mavericks rebounded in game two by scoring nine runs on 13 hits. Nine players collected a hit in the game for the Mavericks.
CMU scored two runs in the second, before exploding for seven in the third.
Makayla Kovac led off the inning with a homerun and would add a single later in the inning that featured eight hits and one Mustang error.
The Mustangs would score two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.
CMU (21-16, 17-6) will host Black Hills State April 3-4.Â
