Mavericks Score Early in 11-2 Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The top ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Sunday afternoon, winning 11-2. It is the fourth straight series sweep and gives them a program-best 19 straight wins.
 
Colorado Mesa didn't waste any time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning, and a single run in the third inning.
 
In the five run third inning, the Mavericks had five hits in the inning with four of those going for extra bases.
 
Andy Scott was 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs driven in and a run scored. Scott came around to score on his triple in the second inning after an errant throw on the relay in from the outfield.
 
Ben Chamberlin also had two hits in the game with three runs scored and a run driven in. Chamberlin hit an RBI triple in the second inning.
 
Matt Delay took the ball in game four, making his first start since March 7. Delay earned the win going five innings and allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out nine.
 
Delay (2-1) struck out the first four batters he faced with the first five outs of the game coming by way of strikeout.
 
Five relievers pitched the final four innings of the game. They combined to allow one run (unearned) on two hits, walked two and struck out four.
 
Colorado Mesa improved to 24-2 on the season and remained perfect in the RMAC at 16-0.
 
The Mavericks will be on the road next weekend when they play Adams State down in Alamosa beginning on Friday.
