GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Adams State out-hit Colorado Mesa in both games of a doubleheader, but the Mavericks won both games Saturday (March 21) night.
The Mavericks won game one 8-5, and posted a 7-6 comeback win in extra innings in game two.
Zoe Pakes hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run first inning for the Mavs. Pakes hit 3-for-5 in the game with five RBI's.
Adams hit a homerun of its own in the top of the second, but a two-run homer by Rachel Booth in the bottom of the inning extending the CMU lead to 5-1.
CMU plated one run in the third and two in the fourth to lead 8-2.
Adams would come up short scoring three runs across the final three innings.
Brooke Hodgson earned her 11
th win of the season allowing five runs on 12 hits.
Adams led 6-0 in game two thanks to a four run fifth inning on three hits and no errors.
CMU would tie the game with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Mavs hit three doubles and a triple in the inning. With a runner on first and third, Mesa scored its final run of the inning with a double steal.
Neither team would score a run until the ninth.
Nicole Robinson led off the inning with a double through the left side and would score on an error on a bunt by
Megan Brown.
Adams finished with a 9-7 advantage in hits, but committed three errors to Mesa's one.
With the sweep, Colorado Mesa improves to 17-12 overall and 13-4 in league play.
CMU and ASU will close out the series with a doubleheader starting at noon Sunday (March 22).
