GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Kevan Elcock's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Colorado Mesa a lead they wouldn't relinquish in an 8-6 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Friday evening at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks, ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball National poll, extend their winning streak to 16 games and improves to 21-2 on the season.
New Mexico Highlands scored two runs in each of the first and third innings but the Mavericks answered back in the bottom half of each of those innings.
Elcock's home run broke that pattern of scoring in the sixth inning, giving the Mavericks a 7-5 lead.

Kevin Mitchell added a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Mavericks the 8-6 edge.
Kyle Serrano finished the game with pair of hits including a triple in the third inning. His single in the first inning extended his hitting streak to 15 games that dates back to February 20.
Tyler Ehlers picked up the win in relief to move his record to 3-0 on the season. Ehlers pitched two and two-thirds innings and allowed one run on three hits, walked one and struck out three.
Joey Capistran pitched the final inning and a third of the game to earn his first save of the season.
The two teams will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
