Mavericks Sweep Orediggers in Doubleheader

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mesa swept a doubleheader from the Colorado Mines Orediggers on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mavericks improve to 19-2 on the season and 11-0 in the RMAC.

In game one, Bligh Madris crushed two home runs and Kevan Elcock had four hits in the Mavericks 20-7 win over the Orediggers. Colorado Mesa collected 22 hits in the game with eight going for extra bases.

The Mavericks had big innings in the six run third and eight run seventh inning.

Madris hit his first homer in the second inning, a solo shot to center field that gave CMU a 2-0 lead at the time.

His second of the game came just an inning later when he hammered a three-run shot to right center field.

Madris finished the game with five runs driven in and two runs scored.

Elcock had two doubles, four runs scored and four runs driven in.

Ryan Reno earned the win on the hill after going five innings. Reno allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits, walked none and struck out five to pick up his sixth win of the season.

Joey Capistran and Josh Ballard pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit and struck out four.

In game two, the two team's hottest pitchers took the mound in Colorado Mesa's Nick Cardinale and Colorado Mines' Nate Olinger. Cardinale won the dual as the Mavericks claimed a 6-3 win over the Orediggers.

Cardinale threw the complete game and allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out eight to earn his third win of the season.

The Orediggers fought hard in the game as Cardinale had traffic on the bases in every inning except for the first.

Kyle Serrano was the only Maverick to collect multiple hits in the game.

Austin Wallingford hit his second round tripper of the season. Wallingford's homer led off the sixth and left the park in left center field.

Alex Fife and Serrano each extended their hitting streaks, picking up hits in both games.

Colorado Mesa will go for their third straight series sweep tomorrow afternoon at noon at Darden Field.
