Allen Pitches Mavericks to Win

GOLDEN, Colo. – Matt Allen pitched the complete game and helped Colorado Mesa earn an 8-5 win over Colorado Mines on Friday evening at Darden Field. The Mavericks improved to 17-2 on the season and stayed perfect in the RMAC at 9-0.

In the complete game, Allen allowed five runs on 11 hits, walked three and struck out eight while picking up his second win of the season in as many starts.

He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the third and only allowed just one base runner in his final three innings of work.

James Young III got the Mavericks on the board in the first inning with a RBI single through the left side of the infield, scoring Kyle Serrano. He drove in three of the Mavericks first four runs after belting a two-run that hooked inside the leftfield foul pole. It was his second round tripper of the season.

Serrano finished the game with three runs scored and extended his hit streak to 11 games.

Alex Fife extended his hit streak to 12 games with a single in the sixth inning.

Second baseman Andy Scott had his best offensive game as a Maverick on Friday. Scott finished with three hits, scored a run and drove in another.

Colorado Mesa will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Darden Field.
