Mavericks Survive OT Thriller

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa outscored Black Hills State 15-7 in the overtime period and secured a 65-57 win over the Yellowjackets on Friday evening in Brownson Arena.

The Mavericks trailed by four at the 3:17 mark of the second half. That came after CMU failed to score for over 10 minutes in the game from the 12:52 mark, where they were leading by 11, until there was 2:49 left in the game. Laurin Rivera ended the draught with a three-point bucket to cut the Yellowjacket lead to one, 46-45.

Two of the top defensive teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference didn't disappoint tonight. Colorado Mesa limited the Yellowjackets to 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the field while the Mavericks shot just 36.7 percent (18-of-49) from the floor.

Each team committed 18 turnovers in the game with Colorado Mesa scoring 23 points off them.
