GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Madelyn Schulz hit a grand slam to lead the Colorado Mesa University softball team to 13-5 win over UCCS Saturday (Feb. 28).

The win completed the series sweep of the Mountain Lions, and the Mavericks improve to 7-0 in league play.

UCCS struck first with a run in the top of the first, but CMU countered with three in the bottom of the inning on two hits and three walks.

Walks would plague the Mountain Lions throughout the game as they tallied 11 across six innings.

UCCS reclaimed the lead with three runs in the top of the second, before Schulz blasted her grand slam in the third.

Jo Bolyard hit a double to left field with the bases loaded to score three runs as part of a four-run fourth inning.

The Mavs scored two more in the sixth to end the game early.

CMU scored its 13 runs on nine hits.

The game was the first of the series in which the Mavs out-hit the Mountain Lions.

Brooke Hodgson was 2-4 with three RBI's. She earned her seventh win of the season allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits.

CMU (11-8, 7-0) will face Regis and CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo., March 7-8.
