GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Fort Lewis used a 46-34 rebounding advantage to defeat the Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team 90-76 in the regular season finale Saturday (Feb. 28).
Ryan Stephan led the Mavericks with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.
Julian Vasquez came off the bench to score 18, and
Michael Melillo added 13 for the Mavericks.
The two teams were even over the first 20 minutes with the Skyhawks leading 42-41 at halftime.
FLC made 15-of-19 free throws in the second half and was 23-of-27 from the line for the game.
CMU shot 8-of-10 from the line.
Fort Lewis out-scored Colorado Mesa 48-35 in the second half behind five 3-pointers from Will Morse. Morse finished with a team-high 23 points and seven 3-pointers in the game.
Alex Herrera tallied a double-double for the Skyhawks with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
CMU (19-9, 14-8) will face UCCS in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Tournament Tuesday (March 3).
