GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team won all three games against UCCS Friday (Feb. 27) despite being out-hit in each game.
CMU improves to a perfect 6-0 in league play and 10-8 overall.
UCCS started the series with a run in the first inning of the first game. CMU tied the game in the third with a sacrifice fly RBI by
Makayla Kovac.
Brooke Hodgson hit her first career homerun with two runners on in the fifth inning. The Mavericks would win the game 4-1 despite being out-hit 9-5.
Hodgson earned the win in the circle giving up nine hits but allowing just one run and striking out a season-high five batters.
CMU won the second game 13-7 thanks to four homeruns and one triple. The Mavericks plated runs in five of six innings, including five in the fourth.
Sarah Phillis was a single away from hitting for the cycle.
CMU's three through six hitters accounted for 11 hits and 12 RBIs in the game.
UCCS enjoyed an 11-8 edge in hits in game three, but CMU completed the sweep with a come from behind 9-4 win.
The Mountain Lions held a 4-1 lead through six innings before the Mavs exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Mesa scored the eight runs on six hits, including three doubles, and three walks.

Brooke Hodgson each had two hits in the game.
Hodgson earned her second win in the circle on the day with the seven inning complete game.
UCCS left 36 runners on-base in the series and CMU had 20.
The two teams are slated to play a single game Saturday (Feb. 28) weather permitting.Â
