GUNNISON, Colo. –
Shanna Halalilo scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Colorado Mesa to a 58-46 win over Western State Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Paul Wright Gym. The Mavericks maintain their one-game lead on UCCS in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
Halalilo scored 15 of her 19 points from beyond the three-point line and the other four points on a 4-for-4 effort from the free-throw line. Her 11 rebounds were a season-high as well.
The Mavericks and Mountaineers were tied 23-23 at halftime but Colorado Mesa limited Western State to just 20 percent from the field in the second half on 6-of-30 shooting. The Mavericks shot just 35 percent in the second half but were 19-of-23 from the charity stripe.
Leanndra Gilbert each had 10 rebounds in the contest and combined for five blocked shots on the night.
Erin Reichle scored 15 points on the evening and was 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.
All of the Maverick starters spent over 30 minutes on the floor.
Jade McIntosh paced the Mountaineers with nine points and eight rebounds.
The win gives the Mavericks 20 for the third straight season with all of them coming in head coach
Taylor Wagner's tenure. It is the first time in program history the Mavericks have had three straight 20-win seasons.
The Mavericks will play their final games of the regular season next weekend when they host Adams State and Fort Lewis in Brownson Arena on Friday and Saturday.
