CANYON, Texas – The Colorado Mesa University softball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the West Texas Lady Buff Invitational Sunday (Feb. 15).
CMU dropped a 9-1 decision to Midwestern State in six innings.
Sarah Phillis led the Mavericks batting 2-2 and stole one base. She scored the Mavericks lone run of the game on an error by the Mustangs in the second inning.
CMU concluded the weekend with an 11-3 loss in five innings to the host West Texas.
The Mavericks scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning. CMU led off the inning with a pair of singles before
Rachel Boothe drove in two runs with a triple to left center.
Boothe would score on the next at bat on a sacrifice fly by
Madelyn Schulz.
Five different players accounted for the five CMU hits in the game, including
Sarah Phillis with a triple in the fourth inning.
Colorado Mesa (4-8) will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a four-game series at Colorado Mines Feb. 21-22.
