Ashley Eickhoff scored five goals to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team to a 12-8 win over Westminster in the season opener Saturday (Feb. 14).
Westminster scored first, but Mesa countered with five straight goals including a pair by Eickhoff.
The Griffins scored three, and the Mavericks scored three to end the half with CMU leading 8-4.
Westminster opened the second half with three goals to pull within one 8-7.
Ashley Eickhoff scored two of the next four goals for the Mavs to extend the lead to 12-7.
Maddie Haynes scored her team-high third goal of the game for the Griffins to conclude the scoring.
Jessica Cook scored three goals and
Shannon Lynch added two. CMU had 10 players record at least one point in the contest.
Mesa outshot Westminster 23-16.
CMU will host Regis Feb. 21.Â
