Mavericks Calm The Red Storm

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Colorado Mesa pounded out 14 hits and scored in eight of the nine innings in a 14-5 win over the Dixie State Red Storm on Friday evening in the series opener at Bruce Hurst Field.

The Mavericks scored one run in the first, two in the second, and one in the third to build a 5-1 lead after two and a half innings of play. The Red Storm posted a four-spot in the bottom half of the third inning but would not score after that as CMU scored nine unanswered runs to close out the game.

Junior Matt Allen earned the win on the mound in relief of starter Matt Delay. Allen threw five innings of shutout relief and allowed just four hits while striking out three to move his record to 1-0.

Seven of the nine starting position players earned a hit on the evening.
