Men's Basketball to Open RMAC Play

Complete Notes in PDF

Colorado Mesa will open RMAC play this week at conference new-comer Westminster Friday (Dec. 5). The Mavericks enter the game 4-2 overall after winning both games at home last weekend in the Holiday Inn - Airport Thanksgiving Classic. The weekend sweep was the first for the Mavs this season who had split the first two weekends of the season.
Westminster enters the weekend unbeaten with a 4-0 record and is 3-0 at home in Behnken Field House.

Scoring Output
Colorado Mesa scored a season-high 105 points in its home opening win against Webber International. The last time CMU scored more than 100 points was against Western State on Feb. 21, 2015. The win over WIU was the biggest winning margin in a game since CMU defeated Trinity International 82-31 on Dec. 29, 1999.

Shooting the Ball
Great shooting led Mesa to a season-high 105 points against Webber International. CMU set season-highs for field goals (40) and field goal percentage (.563) in the game.

Rebound Record
For the second time this season Mesa has broken the school record for rebounds in a game. The Mavs grabbed 51 rebounds against Webber International last weekend. The previous record of 50 was set against Dallas Baptist on Nov. 14th. CMU ranks 18th in the nation and second in the league in defensive rebounds averaging 31.17 per game.

Big Steph
Big man Ryan Stephan continues to terrorize teams this season. The Lakewood, Colo., native ranks in the top-25 in Div. II in nine different categories; second in double-doubles (five), fourth in points per game (27.8), fifth in defensive rebounds (8.83), fifth in free throws made (49), seventh in free throws attempted (62), 10th in rebounds per game (11.5), 16th in total points (167), 16th in total rebounds (69) and 19th in total field goals made (57). Stephan was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week the first two weeks of the season.

Turn the Ball Over
Say what? Colorado Mesa is 3-0 this season when it has more turnovers than its opponents and is 1-2 when it has the same amount or fewer turnovers than its opponents.

Looking Ahead
CMU will return home next week for games against UCCS Dec. 11th and MSU Denver Dec. 12th.
