GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – Dalton Patton scored a game-high 28 points to lead UCCS to an 82-62 win over Colorado Mesa University in RMAC basketball action Friday (Dec. 11).
UCCS missed a pair of 3-pointers early in the game before draining five straight to lead 23-10 with 13 minutes remaining in the first.
Ryan Stephan converted a pair of free throws with 2:13 left in the first to pull the Mavericks with in six, 40-34, but the Mountain Lions drained three 3-pointers to end the half with a 49-34 lead.
The UCCS lead grew to as many as 20 points in the second, but
CJ Davis scored a lay-up with 9:00 remaining to cut the lead to 13.
The Mountain Lions responded with a 3-pointer nine seconds later.
UCCS finished with 12 buckets from behind the arc, including nine in the first half and three from Dalton Patton.
CMU finished with five 3-pointers and shot 43-percent from the field.
UCCS shot 52-percent from the field. The Mountain Lions finished with a 37-27 edge in rebounds and a 20-11 lead in assists.
Ryan Stephan led CMU with 24 points and seven rebounds, and
Connor Nichols added 10 points.
Colorado Mesa (4-4, 0-2) will host MSU Denver Saturday (Dec. 11).Â
