GOLDEN, COLO. –
Roy Abergil scored a first half hat trick to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over CSU-Pueblo Friday (Nov. 6). The Mavericks advance to the RMAC Tournament Championship Game Sunday (Nov. 8) against the host Colorado School of Mines.
Abergil's first goal came off a blast from 25-yards out that beat the keeper near side in the seventh minute.
He followed with a header off a corner in the 23
rd minute, and completed the natural hat trick with a goal from 10 yards out in the 34
th minute.
The hat trick was the second of Abergil's career with the other coming against Colorado Christian on Oct. 17, 2014. Abergil tied his own school record for goals in a game, and became the first CMU player to tally six points twice in his career.
Moshe Perez, who assisted on Abergil's third goal, beat one defender and the goalie for the Mav's fourth goal in the 75
th minute.
CMU out-shot CSUP 10-7 in the first half, but Pueblo turned the tables in the second out-shooting Mesa 12-9 to even the shots in the game at 19 apiece.
Mesa led in saves (11-7) and fouls (11-4).
Briley Guarneri earned the shutout in goal for CMU.
CMU will advance to the RMAC championship game for the second time in school history winning the tournament in 2013.
