PUEBLO, Colo. –
Shanna Halalilo hit a three-pointer with 12 second left in the game to give the Mavericks a 47-45 lead over the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The Mavericks hit a pair of free-throws late to take the 49-45 win in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game.
Colorado Mesa had to battle back the whole second half, trailing by as many as 11 points with just over ten minutes to play. Halalilo scored ten of her team-high 14 points in the second half.
Leanndra Gilbert recorded a double-double, picking up 13 points and 12 rebounds.
CSU-Pueblo scored 34 of their 45 points in the paint while Colorado Mesa only had 14 points in the paint and relied on their jump shots. The Mavericks hit seven three-pointers on the night while the ThunderWolves were 1-of-16 from behind the arc.
The Mavericks held a four point lead at the half, 24-20.
Colorado Mesa shot 31 percent (18-of-58) from the field in the game and were 6-of-6 from the free-throw line while the ThunderWolves shot 33 percent (19-of-58) from the field.
Ashley Piper led CSU-Pueblo with 16 points while teammate Katie Nehf had 14 rebounds on the night.
Tomorrow night the Mavericks will have a showdown with UCCS at 5:30pm in Colorado Springs. First place in the RMAC will be on the line in the game.
